Board Certified Behavior Analysts

Tiffany Clauw, MA, BCBA, LBA | STAR Behavior Consultants

Tiffany Clauw, MA, BCBA, LBA, Clinical Director

My name is Tiffany Clauw and I am the Owner/Director of STAR Behavior Consultants. I am Licensed Behavior Analyst and have been practicing Behavior Analysis for over a decade in various settings, including clinics, homes, schools, and the community. I found my niche in Behavior Analysis while pursuing my undergraduate Psychology degree in 2008. I then continued to follow my dreams to pursue my Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis in 2010 from Western Michigan University, one of the most reputable training programs in the nation. Throughout my years in the field, my passion for behavior analysis and children continues to grow, which shows in interactions with families and staff.

I work adamantly on instilling STAR’s mission in all staff, which is to provide the utmost quality of care and celebrate the small victories of each child served. I deeply value a positive work environment, which promotes fun and functional learning. Those who know me have heard me say “happy staff+happy children=effective therapy”, which is truly what makes STAR different.

When I’m not at STAR, I enjoy spending my time with my husband, our daughter Avery, son Max, and our “puppy daughter” Skye! I love being outside, traveling, learning new things, and spending time with friends and family.

Kristy Shoaf, MA, BCBA, LBA, Assistant Clinical Director

My name is Kristy Shoaf. I am a Licensed Behavior Analyst and have been working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder since 2008. I was attending school for a psychology degree at Western Michigan University, and chose to complete my practicum experience as a behavior technician in an Early Intervention classroom for children on the Autism spectrum. I loved it so much that I did an additional two semesters in that practicum and continued on to pursue my Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis there. Since then I’ve worked in a variety of roles in the field, including Training Coordinator, Program Manager (BCBA), and Clinical Director. I feel that the variety has helped round me as a Behavior Analyst, as I’ve directly experienced each important role for myself. I am also a mother of two amazing children (6 and 2 years old) and feel that the addition of motherhood to my life has given me an invaluable perspective to treating children and working with families. My favorite thing about this field is that it insists that you continue to grow and learn and adapt to each child. I also love witnessing the pieces click together for a child and seeing their world open as they learn; there is just nothing better than being a part of that.

Nicole Gehle, M.Ed, BCBA, LBA

My name is Nicole Gehle, and I am a Board-Certified Behavior Analysts here at STAR.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis. I started working here at STAR in December of 2019 as a behavior technician and moved into the BCBA role in August 2021, but I have been in the field of ABA since early 2018!

Prior to working at STAR, I worked as an Elementary School Teacher, primarily teaching second grade. While teaching, I loved working with all my students, but I was always drawn to helping those who needed that extra 1:1 support. Then, I found the ABA field and knew this is what I was meant to do.  When I am not at STAR, I enjoy spending time with my husband (David) and two kids (Jack and Liam). I also have a dog (Quinn) and a cat (Eevee) that I absolutely adore. If I have any extra free time, I love going up north and being out on the boat, cooking, playing video games, or going for walks.

I absolutely love working with children and helping them gain independence. I am also passionate about working with parents to teach skills to help their child generalize their new skills into the home setting. I absolutely LOVE working at STAR and being able to collaborate with others who have the same values as myself.  I look forward to getting to know all of our STAR families!

Steven Bareis, MA | Behavior Tech at STAR

Steven Bareis, MA, BCBA, LBA

My name is Steve Bareis, and I work as a behavior analyst here at STAR. I received my Bachelor’s in History and German Studies from the University of Michigan, and I knew I wanted to teach those subjects to the next generation. To that end, I earned my Master’s in Teaching from Oakland University and entered into service as a public school teacher. It wasn’t long before I realized that I loved the kids even more than the subject matter, which completely changed my outlook on the purpose of my work. I taught middle and high school for three years before deciding to change careers, though my passion for lifting up young people remained unchanged. In 2020, I was lucky enough to discover the field of Applied Behavior Analysis, and I look forward to helping our kids at STAR unlock their full potential and become the best versions of themselves.

When I am not working, I’m usually finding ways to expand my own mind and become the best version of myself. I love learning new languages, traveling to place I’ve never experienced, and meeting people who view the world differently than I do. I also enjoy video games, playing piano, cooking (and eating!), gardening, tabletop RPG’s, and raising pet rabbits. And of course, there is nothing better than spending treasured time with family and friends.

Working with individuals on the autism spectrum has been a very unique experience that offers so much perspective. By ‘striving to achieve results’ it is the greatest personal reward in seeing the success of the kiddos of whom we full heartedly work with. Shaelyn Adams, RBT

Hi, my name is Shaelyn Adams! I’m so thankful and excited to be here at STAR to work as a Behavior Technician! I moved home from Texas/Oklahoma as COVID started and am currently working on my Bachelor of Science degree at Baker College
I first started my nannying/ babysitting career while I was a freshman in high school. Growing up I have looked up to my mom who is a Special Education Teacher herself. It has been ingrained in me the absolute value in each and every child. I found passion for every child whose life I have stepped into. Whether it was introducing new foods, helping work though homework, or introducing the now foreign idea of pen pails; I knew I wanted to change their lives.
In the same walk of life; horses have too been a center focus of mine since I was six years old. I’ve owned eight horses over the years where I started out riding in 4H and continued to ride into professional levels. Throughout my riding career, I’ve always involved kids, many of whom have developed their own love of horses.
In addition to my family and friends’ kids, experience with being a nanny, and the passion that just won’t quit I seem to be a child magnet! I really love them. I am beyond blessed to be part of this time!

I always say I grew up working with children since my mom started an in-home daycare when I was a toddler, that she continued to run well into my adult life. Her daycare is where I first developed an interest in child development and autism. I have spent many years working with children in a variety of settings, including childcare, over a decade as a children’s dance teacher, Montessori teaching assistant, as a nanny, and as my favorite role as Mommy to my two young boys! I have also spent years working in various medical offices. I have recently entered to world of ABA as a Behavior Technician prior to my new role at STAR.  When I am not at STAR, I enjoy spending time with my husband, sons, friends and family taking road trips, exploring the outdoors, watching documentaries, anything related to music or art, or trying any new adventure!

Joann Stein, BA, Office Manager

Hi STAR Family! My name is Joann Stein and I am so excited to be able to say that I work at STAR Behavior Consultants! I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Oakland University in 2015. I’ve always wanted to work with kiddos and found the rewarding world of ABA shortly after graduating. After working 1:1 with the kiddos for four years I moved into the business side of ABA. At STAR, I’ll be assisting Tiffany with various office needs. I’ll be up front, so I’ll get to see all the kiddos smiling faces as they come in.

In my spare time, I love being with my family and friends. I have a large Italian family, so food and family are very close to my heart. I share my life with my wonderful husband, Kris, our cockapoo, Otto, three beautiful nieces, and five handsome nephews. I am honored to be able to see and love the wonderful kiddos each day here at STAR!
